Alabama is a highly underrated camping destination. People are often surprised by its beauty, great Southern food, and significant coastline on the Gulf.
Florida, of course, is a top snowbird destination. But with already hard-to-get reservations and the remaining damage from Hurricane Ian, many snowbirds are looking for an alternative.
As it turns out, Alabama is an excellent Florida snowbird alternative. There are great campground options from Huntsville all the way down to Mobile Bay.

15 Alabama RV Parks for Snowbirds
Recently, a longtime campground industry writer and publicist, Jeff Crider, reached out to us. He researched and came up with a list of Alabama parks with vacancies that he invited us to share with you.
We’re glad to do so and give our thanks to Jeff and the Florida Campground and RV Park Association, which hosts CampFlorida.com.
Keep in mind it’s always a good idea to have reservations. But the good news for snowbirds is that plenty of parks in Alabama have RV sites available during the upcoming winter season…
Quiet country setting close to everything but far from the hustle and bustle. Enjoy their spring-fed pond for either a relaxing sit-down or fishing. You can take a picture of their Texas Longhorns or ask for a tour.
This park recently launched a 40-site expansion that will bring the park to 125 sites, according to park co-owner Catrina Duke.
This park features RV sites and rental accommodations. Guests at this park enjoy the scenic capital city of Alabama along with its many historical landmarks.
The park also has a lake with a variety of native fish, including bluegill, tiger bass, and carp.
Thirteen new lots were developed at this 41-site park last year, according to park manager Jim Winton, adding that the park plans to eventually expand to 121 sites. The resort, which is across the street from a sugar-white sandy beach on the Gulf of Mexico, has RV sites for rent and sale.
Park amenities include a clubhouse with an indoor heated pool and a lazy river. The park also has a five-acre stocked fishing lake.
This park is bordered on 2 sides by creeks. It’s located in Tuscaloosa, near the University of Alabama and City Sports complex, making it popular with sports enthusiasts.
According to park owner Benton Chambliss, they recently added 22 RV sites, which boosts its total site count to 130 sites.

This 70-site park, formerly known as Cherry Blossom RV Park, added 24 pull-through RV sites in 2020. The park planned to add three park models as rental units last year as well as a new bathhouse.
The park is minutes from the Gulf Shores’ white sand beaches. Guests enjoy spacious sites with concrete pads and private patios.
Amenities include free cable and Wi-Fi, a large pool featuring a water slide and lazy river, a playground, a clubhouse with billiards, and a fully stocked lake.
This family-owned park opened in May of 2020 with 100 RV sites. Another 40 RV sites were added in 2021 and the park expects to eventually grow to 170 sites.
The park caters to weekend travelers, snowbirds, and people who work in the greater Mobile area, according to Maranda Pippin, whose parents are developing the park.
Major new amenities were added to this 82-site park in 2020, including a fitness center and a splash pad while its laundry facilities were upgraded. The park is about a 10-minute drive to the beach, depending on traffic.
Newer RV Parks in Alabama
There are also newer, lesser-known RV parks that likely have more availability than the more established parks. These new Alabama RV parks for snowbirds and short-termers tend to have great amenities that you don’t always find at older parks.
This park is in a scenic location along a half mile of riverfront, with water suitable for swimming, rafting, and kayaking. The park also rents out horse stalls and pasture areas to accommodate people who travel with their horses.
This park is located along Lake Guntersville and features lakefront RV sites as well as rental cabins. Park amenities include miles of walking, biking, and golf cart paths.
