Here at TPG, the world is our oyster — and that’s both a blessing and a challenge, especially when it comes to telling you what new hotels are on our radar.
Every year we make a list of the most exciting and anticipated hotel projects slated to open in the following months, and every year it gets harder and harder to narrow it down.
I mean, what’s more important: a rooftop infinity pool, a clawfoot bathtub or a hotel with a lounge for elite members? For us, those questions can make the claws come out.
But we also try to craft a list that represents a wide mix of destinations, that features hotels and resorts innovating in the hospitality space, and that includes properties that participate in major loyalty programs as well as those from independent brands.
This year is already shaping up to be an incredible year for new hotel openings, and this list includes mega-projects rising out of manmade islands in Dubai, safari lodges serving the ultimate in luxury hospitality between game drives and even a totally affordable, dual-branded property in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Throughout the year ahead of us, we’ll try our best to put these hotels to the test by reviewing them firsthand and will check back at the end of the year, as always, with our definitive list of the best hotels that opened in 2023.

Sky-high luxury (a 101-story skyscraper, to be precise) comes to the Windy City later this year when the St. Regis Chicago opens its doors. Suites and guest rooms will feature modern designs and views of the skyline, the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. Of course, we’re also very excited about the hotel’s highly anticipated Miru, a Japanese restaurant from the Chicago-based restaurant group Lettuce Entertain You.
Why book: Food, views and impeccably decorated guest rooms and suites make the St. Regis Chicago a triple threat that promises to level up the city’s overall luxury hotel scene.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London
London, England
Expected opening date: Spring 2023.
There’s a surfeit of ritzy hotels in Mayfair, but we have our eyes on the best-of-British-themed Mandarin Oriental. Inspired by the hotel’s historic Hanover Square location (one of Mayfair’s first Georgian squares, built in 1710), interiors will blend tradition with contemporary élan.
With just 50 rooms and 78 private residences, it will exude an intimate, clubby vibe with cozy spaces graced with paintings and sculptures by established and emerging British artists. Guests can also experience the culinary wizardry of world-renowned chef Akira Back in his eponymous on-site restaurant. The lavish spa will feature an indoor 82-foot swimming pool, sauna, vitality pool and relaxation room, and offer all the bespoke wellness treatments you’d expect from Mandarin Oriental.
Why book here: A highly sought-after location, at the intersection of Knightsbridge and Mayfair, with Saville Row, art galleries, auction houses, Soho’s Carnaby Street and iconic parks and landmarks, all within walking distance.

The Peninsula Istanbul
Istanbul, Turkey
Expected open date: Feb. 14, 2023.
Occupying a coveted stretch of waterfront along the Bosphorus, The Peninsula Istanbul is the latest luxury entrant in the city’s revitalized Galataport. The property, which occupies four buildings (three of which are historic), has 177 keys and multiple dining venues focused on international, Turkish, Asian and Mediterranean fare.
Guests can take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool along the river or the stunning indoor pool framed by distinctive Marmara columns, which are echoed in the marble-clad ensuite bathrooms. Like the property itself, rooms will blend Turkish design touches (think: mother-of-pearl inlay, kilim-style carpets) with modern amenities.
Why book: The hammam steam baths at the eponymous spa are poised to be the city’s hottest new spot to experience traditional Turkish treatments.

The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern
Los Olivos, California
Expected opening date: February 2023.
Take a 19th-century stagecoach inn, add an internationally renowned luxury hotel group, then throw in a fabulous chef and what do you get? This beautifully imagined California Central Coast wine country retreat that’s unlike anything the Santa Ynez Valley has ever seen.
The reimagined lodge will have just 67 rooms and cottages done up by international design firm AvroKO (you might recognize their work from 1 Hotel Central Park and Opposite House in Beijing) in a farmhouse-chic style. The hotel will eventually field (so to speak) five dining and drinking venues, all of which will pay homage to California’s copious seafood and agricultural bounty.
On hot wine-country afternoons, guests can retreat to one of the poolside cabanas, or to the spa for a treatment featuring Jenni Kane’s all-natural Oak Essentials beauty line before settling in for a cozy aperitif by one of the resort’s fire pits at sunset.
Why book: Gin, the on-property tap bar and smokehouse, serves a Shanghai take on smoked ranch fare in the spirit of the restaurant’s namesake, a longtime chef of the original inn.

The Homestead, South Africa
Ladysmith, South Africa
Expected opening date: 2023.
Located in the malaria-free KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa (235 miles southeast of Johannesburg), The Homestead will combine superb Big Five game viewing at the Nambiti Private Game Reserve with a strong sustainable ethos and focus on immersive experiences.
Constructed from local stone, each of the 12 spacious, contemporary suites will be lavishly appointed with curved sofas, accent chairs, sleek wooden furnishings and handwoven rugs, all in a playful color palette of bright yellow, pink, jade green and turquoise.
Luxe amenities will include private infinity pools, outdoor showers and fireplaces, while floor-to-ceiling windows will frame sweeping panoramas of the game reserve and wildlife convening at the nearby watering hole.
Why book here: In addition to spectacular game viewing, the property will also offer animal photography classes, hiking, yoga classes, overnight camping trips and cooking classes.

Maison Delano

Expected opening date: March 1, 2023.
Delano’s iconic South Beach hotel in Florida may have closed during the pandemic, but the brand is storming the City of Light this spring with Maison Delano, a 56-room hotel occupying an 18th-century mansion in Paris’s tony 8th Arrondissement.
The hotel is meant to be the launch of a city-focused sub-brand for Delano (which has been known to favor resort destinations like Miami and Las Vegas). Along with the intimate room count, Maison Delano will serve cocktails at the Delano Bar and French-Andalusian fare at La Chambre Bleue, a courtyard restaurant from chef Dani García of Michelin acclaim.
Why book: For the ultimate posh Parisian getaway, splurge on the Grand Historic suite, where you can unwind in a soaking tub by a fireplace in the bathroom.

Banyan Tree Valle de Guadalupe Resort, Spa and Winery
Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico
Expected opening date: Late 2023.
Just a 90-minute drive south of the border from San Diego, Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe has quickly become one of the world’s most up-and-coming wine regions. No wonder luxury resort group Banyan Tree will be planting its flag there (along with some delicious grapes, presumably) later this year.
With just 30 villas designed by Mexican architect Michel Gojkind and developed by firm Grupo UBK, this 39-acre oenological enclave – the Banyan Tree’s fourth hotel in Mexico – will be home to the luxury chain’s first proprietary winery, vineyards, fermentation facility and barrel-aging room.
The cuisine at its five food and beverage venues, which will include a fine-dining restaurant, a cocktail bar, a coffeehouse and an alfresco terrace, will be inspired by the region’s desert surroundings (be sure to try the house-made olive oil) and feature fresh Pacific seafood, while the treatments at its four-room spa will highlight local healing herbs such as white sage and hoja santa.
Why book: Explore a little-visited corner of Mexico and be the first to try wines all your friends will be raving about next year … when they finally discover them.

Andaz Mexico City Condesa
Mexico City, Mexico
Opened in January.
If Mexico City is a place for art lovers, food connoisseurs and people with a zest for life, this brand-new, now-open Andaz is the place for those travelers (and locals) to visit. In Condesa, a vibrant, upscale neighborhood full of culture and leafy streets, this 213-key hotel features contemporary rooms inspired by Mexican architect Luis Barragán and the surrounding community.
Guests can enjoy fresh matcha at Derba Matcha Café or snack on Baja-style seafood dishes meant to be shared at the Cabuya Rooftop restaurant. A spa and a technologically advanced 24-hour fitness center round out this modern, art-filled hotel.
Why book: A hotel for dog owners (and dog-obsessed travelers), the second-floor deck also features the dog-friendly Wooftop Beer Garden and Canine Club where guests and locals are invited to enjoy a drink while Fido sips on “dog beer.”

Raffles London at the OWO
London, England
Expected opening date: Spring 2023.
The race is on to make sure Raffles London at the OWO is open in time (albeit after some delays) for a certain coronation taking place in early May.
This renovation of London’s Old War Office means guests at the Raffles hotel will be staying in the building that once was the workplace of political and intelligence legends like Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming, the naval intelligence officer-turned-writer who penned the James Bond series of novels.
Raffles London will be less about spies and statesmen (save for the historic building) and more about luxurious finishes in all 120 guest rooms and suites. Nine restaurants, three bars, a Guerlain spa and a wellness center make this all but certain to be London’s most sought-after oasis.
Why book: Luxury and location (only steps away from Westminster Abbey). But we’re eager to see all three dining venues at the hotel coming from chef Mauro Colagreco.

Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
Expected opening date: July 1, 2023.
One of Hawaii’s best-loved resorts is being reborn as an ultra-luxurious (and eco-conscious; the hotel will be powered completely by solar energy) Rosewood this summer.
Stretching across 81 beachfront acres on the Big Island’s dramatic Kohala Coast, the new Rosewood Kona Village will debut in July with just 150 standalone hales, or guest villas and suites, starting at 850 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space, including outdoor showers.
In addition to its ancient Hawaiian-inspired architecture and decor (with a little surf culture swirled in), the hotel will offer educational programming at a cultural center and host five restaurants and bars, including an updated version of the original resort’s oceanfront Shipwreck bar (we’re betting the mai tais are pretty tubular), plus an iteration of Rosewood’s integrative wellness spa, Asaya.
Why book: Rediscover a classic, family-friendly Hawaiian beach resort that’s been given the luxe treatment.

Rome Edition
Rome, Italy
Expected opening date: May 2023.
Legendary hotelier Ian Schrager may be parting ways with Marriott and its Edition portfolio, but the almost too-cool-for-school brand keeps expanding. In Italy, travelers will soon find the brand’s signature Le Labo scent wafting through the air near some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks.
Across its 93 rooms and suites, the Rome Edition is sure to wow with moody lighting, oak detailing and its iconic faux fur blankets. But like its sister properties around the globe, it’s the chic public spaces where locals and tourists flock. This property will feature an outpost of the Punch Room Bar, serving craft cocktails, and a Rooftop Terrace offering city views, snacks and drinks.
Why book: Come to Rome to soak up the art, but stay at the Edition to soak in the hotel’s rooftop pool.

The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne
Melbourne, Australia
Expected open date: March 2023.
The classic, contemporary luxury of the Ritz-Carlton brand meets the youthful, plucky city of Melbourne this spring.
Lofted 80 stories above the metropolis in Australia’s tallest hotel tower, guests will find artworks by local creators throughout the property, leather-and-velvet furniture in the guest rooms and serene marble-clad bathrooms with freestanding soaking tubs and, in the 64th-floor spa, a heated infinity pool that seems to extend, uninterrupted, into the city skyline.
Why book: You’ll earn your bragging rights when you check in for your stay at the tallest hotel in all of Australia.

Park Hyatt Marrakech
Marrakech, Morocco
Expected opening date: Spring 2023.
First announced in 2008, the Park Hyatt Marrakech is almost ready to open its doors. The property is a destination unto itself with a golf course, four restaurants (including a Spago from celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck and Tfaya — Brasserie Arabesque from chef Issam Rhachi), a spa and plenty of activities like paragliding and hot air balloon rides.
The resort’s mix of guest rooms, suites and villas feature views of the Atlas Mountains and designs that incorporate African art to create a stay that’s both beautiful and calming.
Why book: We’re ready to luxuriate in the Park Hyatt Marrakech’s three-bedroom Royal Villa that includes a private en-suite hammam and pool.

JW Marriott Masai Mara
Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
Expected opening: Spring 2023.
At Marriott’s first high-end safari lodge, the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge, the prime location on the vast, primal plains of the Masai Mara will ensure optimal wildlife viewing of not only the Big Five but also hundreds of other wildlife species.
The luxurious, eco-conscious lodge will feature 20 classic safari-style tents with canopy beds, stone tile floors and Masai-inspired prints and fabrics. Executive suites and two interconnecting canopied suites will be ideal for families and each will have a private deck overlooking the Talek River where animals congregate during the dry season.
An array of upscale amenities will include a restaurant, lounge bar, spa, gym, studio, garden and an outdoor deck with fire pits. Marriott has committed to hiring 50 individuals from the Masai community to work both as guides and in hospitality positions at the lodge.
Why book: A pioneer of sustainable tourism in Africa, Kenya is one of TPG’s top destinations for 2023.

Regent Hong Kong
Hong Kong
Expected opening date: Spring 2023.
A luxury homecoming is poised to kick off in Hong Kong. IHG spent the last few years transforming what had been an InterContinental into Regent Hong Kong, the brand that originally occupied this building overlooking Victoria Harbor.
The nearly 500 rooms and suites at the Regent will reopen with neutral tones, luxurious bathrooms complete with soaking tubs and windowfront daybeds where guests can take in views of the Hong Kong skyline. Don’t spend all your time upstairs, however: Regent Kong Kong is a dining destination with four restaurants already open (all with impeccable views of the harbor).
Why book: Lai Ching Heen, a restaurant that was part of the original incarnation of the Regent 40 years ago, is back with impeccable views and incredible Cantonese cuisine (plus a hand-carved jade corridor).

Iceland Parliament Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton
Reykjavík, Iceland
Opened in January.
Occupying a series of seven new and restored buildings near the Icelandic parliament, this new Curio Collection hotel puts travelers within walking distance of some of the city’s most famous sites and attractions, such as the Harpa concert hall and Reykjavík Cathedral.
Dark, textured wood walls, black-and-white marble and pops of blue that echo the old Reykjavík harbor nearby are key design elements in the 163 contemporary rooms. Guests have access to an all-hours fitness center and a spa featuring geothermal hot tubs, steam baths and a sauna, plus a bar and a restaurant overlooking Austurvöllur central square.
Why book: A new points property in pricey Iceland is great news for travelers looking for ways to save money.

Numu Boutique Hotel San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
Opened in January.
The 44-key Numu Boutique Hotel is a charming addition to the rapidly expanding Unbound Collection. The striking modern exterior — right angles of white stone and glass — and sleek, art-filled spaces take their cue from UNESCO-inscribed San Miguel de Allende, famed for its picturesque cobblestone streets dotted with colonial-era landmarks.
Stylish rooms start at 409 square feet and are beautifully appointed with cream mosaic-tiled floors, natural wood beams, hand-crafted furnishings and locally inspired paintings and artifacts. The hotel’s embrace of all things local extends to the on-site restaurant, Huerta de Don Enrique, which serves inventive farm-to-table specialties along with tequila and mezcal cocktails, and massages and treatments at the Nubye Spa draw on traditional Mexican healing rituals and techniques.
Why book: There are few more relaxing vantage points to take in the centuries-old skyline of San Miguel than Numu’s stunning rooftop pool and sundeck.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas

Expected opening date: Fourth quarter 2023.
For more than two decades, the shiny Fontainebleau project has towered, unfinished, over the Las Vegas Strip. A victim of the 2008 financial crash and a property that’s changed hands various times over the years, many wondered if it would ever be completed.
Alas, that day is nearly here and the 67-story Fontainebleau Las Vegas is set to open later this year with a whopping 3,700 hotel rooms, multiple pools, ample gaming space, restaurants and shopping, plus 550,000 square feet of convention space.
Why stay here: A Las Vegas mega-resort decades in the making, this project has something to prove so expect the best of the best, especially considering Las Vegas is gearing up to have a banner year with events bringing people in from around the world.

The Standard, Singapore
Singapore
Expected opening date: Late 2023.
Standard International’s push into Asia goes beyond Thailand and into Singapore later this year with The Standard, Singapore, in the city’s Orchard district.
We can’t help but feel that its location directly across from the Shangri-La Singapore is another strategic play from the Standard team to show luxe accommodations don’t have to be so stuffy. After all, much of the fanfare around the Bangkok outpost was how Standard proved luxury didn’t have to be so … beige. In Singapore, we’re excited to see the brand bring its hefty lineup of bars, restaurants and fabulosity. Expect more specifics on that to be announced later this year ahead of the opening.
Why book: The Standard has gone global, and we’re loving the brand’s ability to bring a fun side to luxurious hotels in each new city it enters around the world. There’s also a lot of excitement around the fact this is one of the few new-build hotels to enter the Orchard district in a while.

Ulum Moab
Moab, Utah
Expected open date: March 2023.
Pioneering glamping brand Under Canvas welcomes a sister brand, Ulum, to the striking desert landscapes of the nation’s adventure capital, Moab.
With safari-style tented suites that, like Under Canvas accommodations, are designed to complement its natural surroundings (in this case, the spectacular arches and hoodoos of the nearby national parks), guests at Ulum will find a more refined hospitality experience with amenities akin to a luxury hotel. That includes a full-service restaurant serving craft cocktails featuring local ingredients like sage and prickly pear and Aesop bath amenities in private ensuite bathrooms with rainfall showers.
Why book: After a day hiking, climbing and biking in neighboring Canyonlands and Arches national parks, retreat to Ulum for a relaxing plunge in the hot and cold dipping pools, or to listen to live music while roasting s’mores around a fire pit.

Atlantis, The Royal
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Expected opening date: Feb. 10, 2023.
Dubai’s Atlantis, The Palm is getting a sleek, shiny and ultra-modern sister resort that’s sure to be the hottest place in the emirate thanks to its lineup of 17 celebrity-driven bars and restaurants (including a Nobu Beach Club), a day-to-night rooftop pool club with views for days and 44 suites with private infinity pools.
Not to mention the Awaken Spa will feature a larger-than-life menu of spa, fitness and clinical experiences to help recover after a night of partying with the who’s who of Dubai, with the highlight being the Hammam Sensorium. Just make sure to stop by the Skyblaze Fountain for the first-of-its-kind water and fire spectacle framed by the Dubai skyline.
Why book: At Resonance By Heston Blumenthal, sip cocktails that are served with views of the largest jellyfish aquarium in the world.

Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo — Panama City
Panama City, Panama
Opened in January.
Paris-based Accor certainly picked the most logical building to bring Sofitel to Panama. The French colonial architecture of the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo Panama City — housed in what was built in 1917 as the Club Union, a private club that went on to host an impressive mix of guests like Queen Elizabeth II and Albert Einstein — blends in with the surrounding Casco Viejo historic district.
The hotel, which opened earlier this year, features 159 rooms and suites with contemporary, bright decor and views of the Caribbean Sea, the city or the interior courtyard. Beyond the guest rooms, the hotel’s waterfront swimming pool, its spa that uses KOS Paris products and its lineup of five bars and restaurants make this property feel more like a resort than a standard city hotel.
Why book: Accor’s leaders signaled in recent years a brand overhaul is coming to Sofitel. We’re already in love with the look of the claw-footed soaking tubs in the Sofitel’s enormous bathrooms and eager for a cocktail at the Ammi rooftop bar.

Southern Ocean Lodge
Kangaroo Island, South Australia
Expected opening date: Late 2023.
When it originally opened in 2008 on South Australia’s rugged Kangaroo Island, Southern Ocean Lodge helped usher in a new era of luxury lodgings in Oceania.
Strung out along the bluffs above the crashing surf, the lodge set the standard for stunning accommodations with clifftop villas that enjoyed endless views from window walls facing the sea. The original lodge was destroyed in the devastating bushfires of 2019 and 2020, but it’s rising from the ashes and set to make a glorious return later this year, with 25 new villas designed by the lodge’s original architect, Max Pritchard, along with partner Andrew Gunner, that hug the coastal landscape.
The new incarnation will be 25{e9f0aada585b9d73d0d08d3c277fd760092386ec23cac37d50f4b8cd792b062a} more energy-efficient than the original thanks to a solar-battery hybrid energy system, and thoughtful landscaping leveraging fire-resistant plants should help ensure that this welcome return endures.
Why book: Be among the first to rediscover one of Australia’s most unique settings (few places are better for spotting koalas than Kangaroo Island) and one of its most beloved luxury lodges.

Kimpton Naranta Bali
Nusa Dua, Indonesia
Expected opening date: Late 2023.
This dreamy redoubt on Bali’s popular southern shore will have just 50 villas, starting at over 1,100 square feet, with expansive outdoor patios and most with private saltwater plunge pools. The hotel’s Samskara Spa specializes in traditional Balinese cleansing and healing treatments, while active guests can take advantage of beach boot camps and jungle treks.
For dining, the casual all-day restaurant, Maya’s Pantry, will serve international fare; Aki & Jack’s will proffer Japanese and Western barbecue; and there will even be a speakeasy cocktail bar slinging classic libations and a private beach club with light bites and drinks.
Why book: This is bound to be the nicest IHG One Rewards property on the Island of the Gods, so put your points to use before it’s discovered by the jet set.

Hyatt Centric Congress Austin

In a prime downtown location surrounded by cultural attractions, historic landmarks and acclaimed restaurants, the 246-key Hyatt Centric Austin channels the city’s laid-back youthful vibe, passion for music and culinary flair.
The hotel’s sleek rooms and luxe suites will appeal to creative types with industrial, streamlined furnishings and wooden floors. The gray and silver color palette is warmed with cozy area rugs, contemporary paintings by local artists and eclectic music-themed artifacts and decorative objects, including vintage concert posters, guitar-amp nightstands and retro headphones.
The on-site restaurant, Luminaire, is helmed by six-time James Beard Foundation finalist Steve McHugh and its gourmet cuisine will incorporate hyper-seasonal local fare served in a polished but unpretentious dining room while the outdoor terrace at the rooftop bar, Las Bis, is sure to become one of the hottest night spots in town.

andBeyond, Punakha River Lodge, Bhutan

Surrounded by lush hills and paddy fields, andBeyond’s Punakha River Lodge has been designed in a traditional Bhutanese architectural style with stone masonry accented with intricate, gilded woodwork.
The intimate property will feature just six luxury safari-style tents and two villas that will be artfully appointed with hand-crafted furnishings and vibrant decorative objects and fabrics that aim to conjure a real sense of place. Large, lavish bathrooms will feature local tile and stonework anchored by freestanding tubs.
On the Mo Chhu River, water-based activities (kayaking, fishing, rafting) will complement wellness pursuits (yoga and Bhutanese hot stone baths), regional culinary specialties prepared with produce grown in the organic vegetable garden, as well as swift access to the superb hiking trails for which the tiny Himalayan kingdom is known.

Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences

Rising above one of Boston’s poshest neighborhoods, Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences will be the brand’s first North American development when it debuts later this year.
The luxe property’s two-story sky lobby promises incredible views of the historic architecture surrounding nearby Copley Square as well as the Charles River and beyond. Raffles will add 146 luxurious guest rooms and suites into Boston’s high-end hotel orbit, and we hear careful attention is being paid to make the property’s five bars and restaurants resonate with locals just as much as they do with overnight guests arriving from around the world.
Why book: The guest rooms will be decadent, but we’re excited to grab a cocktail in the Paolo Ferrari-designed sky lobby bar.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay
Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii
Expected opening date: Feb. 15, 2023.
Eco-friendly and driven by sustainability, 1 Hotels is calling its first Hawaii location its “flagship property” — and it’s easy to see why.
On a picturesque expanse of Hanalei Bay with views of Mount Makana, this 252-room resort brings rustic, plant-filled rooms, a 7,900-square-foot wellness center and an 18,000-square-foot spa with holistic programming to Kauai’s north shore.
There will also be seven restaurants and bars serving locally sourced food and beautiful beaches and mountains to explore. Try your hand at surfing and reward yourself later with a hot stone massage at the Bamford Wellness Spa before watching the sunset with sake, sushi and live entertainment at Welina Terrace.
Why book: In remote destinations like Hawaii, it’s important to consider the impact a visit has on local resources and the environment. At 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, rest easy knowing the hotel was built using ultra-sustainable practices, is carbon neutral and works to offset carbon emissions through various projects.

Singapore Edition

This 190-room hotel will be Edition’s first in Southeast Asia upon its expected opening later this year in Singapore’s Orchard district.
Five bars and restaurants, a rooftop pool and a spa await travelers craving a little rest and relaxation in the heart of the Lion City’s premier shopping hub. Details are still sparse, but we’re always eager for any updates involving this hotel development and design pairing between Marriott International and Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager.
Why book: Schrager only has a few more hotels left in his partnership with Marriott on Edition. Catch his Midas design touch while it lasts.

Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel

Expected opening date: Spring 2023.
In December, TPG toured the construction site of Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel. While we weren’t allowed to take photos, let us assure you: This is going to be the hotel A-Listers spar over to score a reservation during the Cannes Film Festival.
The hotel, formerly an InterContinental, will feature a revamped courtyard with a sprawling pool deck. Reserve a guest room with a Mediterranean Sea view (bay windows in these rooms and suites offer an expansive lookout), but even courtyard views will be stellar.
While details on the restaurants and bars weren’t divulged during our tour, these spaces are poised to be show stoppers with sweeping staircases, ornate chandeliers and jaw-dropping views. Of course, the Carlton Beach Club on the Mediterranean shore is always the place to catch some rays, sip Veuve Cliquot and see and be seen.
Why book: IHG is pushing forward on the throttle to turn Regent into one of its ultra-luxurious brands with locations around the world. It’s about time Cannes had a scene-stealing points hotel.

Ngorongoro Lodge, a Meliá Collection Hotel

After a full day on safari, tracking the region’s renowned wildlife through Ngorongoro’s highlands, savanna and woodlands, imagine yourself taking a dip in an infinity pool that seems to drop off into the plains of the world’s largest intact caldera.

It’s out with the old and in with the new in Orange County, California, where the former Fashion Island Hotel, set in the middle of Newport Beach’s most attractive shopping zone, is being replaced with the third Pendry hotel in Southern California.
Pendry, known for its laidback, California-inspired luxury, is breathing new life into the towering hotel by revitalizing the 296 rooms and suites with rich, garden-inspired interiors, three restaurant and bar outlets, the brand’s signature Spa Pendry and a pool with a sundeck, not to mention a kids club and private membership club for locals.
Why book: With locations on both coasts, Pendry is a brand on a mission. Before it dominates the global hotel scene, stay here to cement your trendsetter status.

Six Senses Crans-Montana

This winter, Six Senses will make its Swiss debut with a luxury ski resort in the acclaimed canton of Valais. Ski-in, ski-out access delivers guests to the region’s iconic slopes blanketed in dry, champagne snow.
In the chalet-inspired rooms and suites, bay windows and balconies emphasize the property’s enviable alpine surrounds — as do the natural materials (slate and quartzite stone, larch and oak woods) used throughout the accommodations.
Even after the final runs of the season, this Six Senses will be in demand with adventure and wellness enthusiasts who can spend mild summer afternoons plying the region’s pristine mountain lakes and scaling their precipitous peaks before cooling off in the resort’s stunning rooftop pool.

Outside the rooms, dining options range from Akasa, an all-day international affair to the casual Asian eatery Toya. Conrad Orlando

In 2022, TPG named Orlando our 2022 domestic destination of the year, thanks to exciting new developments and attractions ranging from new airport terminals to out-of-this-world theme park attractions.
But this year, Hilton is planting the Conrad flag next to Walt Disney World. The Conrad Orlando will be an upscale resort that’s still comfortable enough for the whole family and will, in fact, have 10 oversized family suites where the gang can sprawl out and unwind.
There will be a number of restaurants and bars to enjoy, while the spa can help parents relax after days of rollercoasters and waiting in line.
Why book: Skip the theme parks and hit up the resort complex’s 20-acre beach or one of the multiple 18-hole golf courses.

The Comodo
Bad Gastein, Austria
Opened in January.
A former clinic has been reborn as a stylish midcentury mountain escape in the Austrian Alps. The 70-key property, which belongs to Design Hotels (which will all eventually be bookable via Marriott) is expected to be the first of many properties under the Comodo name.
Rooms feature an array of configurations and equally imposing views, from the single-family room with bunk beds to valley-view rooms with terraces or balconies and spacious suites with freestanding bathtubs and living rooms furnished with vintage armchairs and record players.
Why book: Take a dip in the indoor pool while soaking in the striking mountain views or elbow up to a gleaming green stone table at the bar for a no-frills dinner (and the hotel’s distinct interpretation of a sour with the German grain spirit, Korn). No matter what your idea of wellness is, you’ll find it at The Comodo in spades.

Dual-branded Moxy and AC Hotel Downtown Los Angeles

Across the country, developers are splitting massive construction projects into multiple, distinct hotels housed in the same building. While the trend isn’t exactly new, the forthcoming Moxy and AC Hotel combo in downtown Los Angeles might just set a new standard.
Between both properties, 727 new guestrooms will be situated right across the street from the convention center and Crypto.com Arena (the former Staples center), and host a staggering 13 food and drink concepts, including Level 8, a Miami-inspired pool deck with a carousel bar, taco truck and club-like entertainment.
Why book: At this dual-branded property, choose between playful-yet-functional rooms at the Moxy or modern, homey rooms at the AC Hotel and get access to amenities at both.

Thompson Palm Springs

Set to open later this year in Palm Springs’ Design District, this Thompson outpost is the lovechild of B2 Architecture + Design and SMS Architecture.
Offering 168 rooms and 18 suites, including some with private pools, as well as two hotel pools, a Mediterranean restaurant, a gourmet ice cream shop and a coffee shop, this midcentury modern-inspired hotel is poised to be a retreat in and of itself, in a city known to be a respite for nearby Angelenos.
And though there are already a few Hyatt properties in town, this one will finally give the brand a property equally as trendy as the destination itself.
Why book: Thompson Palm Springs’ rooftop pool will certainly be the new “it” spot to beat the overbearing desert heat. Or, if it’s just too much, the forthcoming Hall Family Wine tasting room will be the place to cool down with a glass of California wine in hand.
